ARRIVING NIGERIA

This time she didn't know if it was real, she's heard those words over and over again “I’m different”! (Is it just me or every man automatically uses this as a pick up line?) she asked herself. Its one year and she's been away, counting down to her birthday, its approximately 22 days, she's had to stay away from friends and family to re-evaluate herself and worth! Men are being entirely difficult instead of different as they all claim they are now.

Only year after she decided to run away with a married man (Yea! she did) She made sure she didn't “own”, just as he gave her all the privileges, she gave him every 3 months privilege to go see his wife and family! Now she's back to Nigeria, South Africa did great to her completion, she feels healthier and her bank account still on the high level!!! as she landed Muritala Mohammed International Airport Lagos Nigeria, she knew she’ll either be played or play them.

She remembered when she swore and made a promise to her late mother that she wouldn’t, NEVER date a married man after her late dad left them for the maid.

She’ll be 35yrs in a few days, brilliant, hardworking, has her own lingerie line and best of all, he Alfred “The Married Man” was not the first man she's eloped with..

“A Man with dreams need a Woman with a Vision”

     That's exactly what she thought when she gave Yinka five years of her life. he was a man with a  dream,  he was a mixture of Martin Luther Kings and President Barrack Obama and she didn't mind following him like Michelle did to support and actualise his dreams. Its difficult visualising anthers dream, but this was not the case with Yinka, she was the ting to his yang, they ended each others sentences.

She can still remember vividly  how he called the engagement off and told her that his getting married to a virgin in a few weeks, but she smiled to that thought, counted her blessings now that if it wasn't  for Yinka breaking her heart to this extent, she wouldn't have known how huge it was an investment to be with married men. the fussing over, the numerous trips abroad and most of all the non-return of investment on her life. Counting her Real- Estate investment, she's a “Landlady, Property Owner” in the Nigerian term, numerous properties, each of which she had an already furnished apartment in, No hotel bills on her end but as long as his “who ever he is” paying, she's up for the treat.

But it didn't all start all rosy, she actually thought pounding of yam and making olubu (bitter leaf) soup wouldn't make him stay with her. Little did she know that married men didn't need all the pounded yam she can make, they have their wives to do that!

ENUGU

       She remembered when she had her first married man, he was an igbo man from Enugu, she remembered his clear crisp look, flawless and good use of vocabulary, he articulated his words soo beautifully when he spoke to her, she met him six months after her huge breakup, while she was doing her NYSC Service ( A mandatory one year service for graduates in Nigeria, where they are posted to either of the 36 states in the country to serve their fathers land, not only to familiarise with different culture or make friends but acclimatise with different environments, with military training in various camps in various communities in the country and a monthly stipends from the federal government).

  She was posted to Enugu, which was her PPA (Primary Place of Assignment) there she worked with one of the banks in the state, that was how she noticed him.

Mr. Uche, always walked up to her counter to make all his transactions, even when he goes to meet the big boss inside, she was always asked to come assist in one way or the other, she knew she took a liking to him but she couldn't help noticing the gold ring one one of his left fingers. (she wrote him off in her head, besides her 90 day rule has gotten to 180days and she's willing to go the whole 365 days), but she missed all the dotting over and attentions she needed from her own man…

( “Person body no be firewood” - A saying in Nigeria, meaning one wouldn't just be alone without it desiring for attention, especially when the person is sexually active )

Its not like she excluded herself from men totally or have seen them like monsters, she's been on dates often and she still had all the admirers she can get but the fear of being committed in a relationship again held her back. But this particular day, Mr Uche didn't just walk up to her counter or speak his plenty grammar, he walked up with a note write

“I am Him, The Secret Admirer,
I cannot remain hidden,
How about a date?
I’ll call you..”

She was taken aback, her eyes nearly pulled out of the sockets, she's been receiving DHL packages for the past few weeks and these packages were sent to her with her full names written, she's always eager to open them and truth be told she connected to the materialistic girl that she is. The designers bags, wrist watches, perfumes, etc she didn't know where it was coming from but for good ness sakes her colleagues would always tell her a Rich man likes you enough!!

As he walked away from her counter, she released the note said he was going to call her, how did he get her number!! Who was she kidding, this man has been sending her gifts, whats getting her number?

Ohhh!! She was tripping, this married man got swag of a spoilt boy and she didn't mind being spoilt for that second or moment

Heaven knows she deserves some kind of reward and appreciation, But the marriage thing keeps hitting ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been two weeks since she had her confrontation with her “Secret Admirer”, Mr., Uche has gone MIA all of a sudden.
    The first week she couldn't keep her phone far from her, she has anticipated his call, she had anticipated his call, she had day dreamed about his call and first date, she spent most of her free time browsing on the internet on what to wear for the first date. (She didn't want to look like a huchi mama, too sexy and desperate for him to notice her curves etc), besides the bank internet was fast and free.
    She wanted to be perceived as independent, confident and classy woman.
But after the end of the second week and frustration that she didn't hear from him or couldn't even get his number from anyone, she wrote him off mentally and scolded herself for ever being week and vulnerable again for any man, especially a married man.
It was the Friday of the third week, she couldn't wait to get to her one room apartment, pull her clothes off ands have a lazy weekend, watching movies and American Series from her laptop, while eating junk food till Sunday morning and probably make her hair on Saturday.
She was looking frazzled  as she walked outside the bank premisses and she heard her name, her heart literally sank in her stomach as she recognised that voice, that crisp and clear.
Lifted her head and there he was, standing next to his car, she saw him walking close to her, that was when she realised she had stood a while out of shock. He said hello and asked if he could drop her off home, as he ushered her into his car. She entered and stuttered her good evening as he sat next to her, as the driver drove, he asked if she had eaten this evening and before she answered they were on their way to a famous joint and he asked the driver to order a bit of everything.
While he was gone, Mr. Uche held her hand and apologised for leaving without trying to reach her and  the he would explain later tonight when he comes to pick her up for dinner date by 7:45pm. She directed him to her place and told him he shouldn't bother explaining that she understood he is a busy man. But he cut her short and insisted he would. Apologised for not being able to get her to her room but some other time.
   Oh! she said her “Thank You” and walked to her room, opened her door and jumped on her bed. Which kin wahala be this? (What kind of trouble is this, in Nigerian pidgin English) she asked herself, how can a man, a married man for that matter make her heart palpitate like this and for what?
First things first, what was she going to wear? she had rehearsed how their date was going to be that at this point she couldn't even put two and two together on what to wear. She opened her box of new clothes, started wearing each one and matching them, who would have expected a casual dinner date? if she had known she would have googled for that.
Arghhh!!!!
She checked her time  it was already 7pm, she needed to take her bath and fix her hair, but as she was about heating up water to bath, NEPA (A power holding company that distributes electricity )took light, total black out. She had to make do with what she had so she hurriedly took her bath, tried brushing the afro weapon on her hair before she wore the cloth she choose
it was a simple floral pink flawy dress with a simple brown belt and flat matching sandals, bold earrings and African bracelet.
There was a knock on her door and she opened it to see who it was and there he stood in front of it, she tries coming out but he asked her if she wouldn't invite him in.
Haba!!! This man no go kill me o!! As my room jagajaga with plenty load, e still wan enter??… (“Haba” An expression of shock, this man wouldn't kill me, with my room messy like this and he still wants to come in..) she said to herself . She ushered him in, apologised for the electricity and her messy room, he sat on her bed which was the only furniture that she has that was outstanding, but only before she removed her bra from the bed.
He watched as she fussed around, he kept that smile on his face because he liked how he made her uncomfortable, asked her if she was ready and they left.
The restaurant in this hotel was grand but he insisted they sat next to the pool, it was breezy and airy, probably  because he needed to smoke his cigarette while he ordered a chapman for her to drink and a bottle of Hennessy VSOP, She took mental note of all his habits. then he turned to her and started explaining how he had to travel to America for an urgent business meeting, then to China to conceal a deal that was pressing and United Kingdom to see his children, as one of his boys birthday was that week. He apologised for keeping her waiting on his calls and not trying to reach her all these while. He told her he has two boys (Tochi and Clement) and a wife.
She already figured out they live in the Uk, that he travels every now and then to be with them, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and special occasions. He told her his wife Amaka is currently pregnant with their third child too. He mentioned that he came from a  good family, he’s mother was generous enough to him and gave him sole custody of her businesses and how he has been taking care of it.
He spent that night talking about him and his accomplishments and achievements and asked her about her dreams and goals and believes that they forgot it was 1 am, time went fast with him, she told him about her ex and all the drama she's gone through but for the first time ever, she didn't mention her policy on not dating married men.  She was already yawning when he suggested they start leaving, but she shouldn't bother to go home and that they were sleeping at the hotel…
Her eyes were full of furry as she had to straighten things with him.
She stood up  and was mad at him, I am not CHEAP, Mr Uche !!! (She Barked)
and dnt think taking me out would automatically make me open my legs for you, if thats how you sleep with girls then I am sorry i am not ready, she told him.
He started laughing, he laughed so hard at her that she was livid, what is wrong with this man, whats funny? she couldn't help but ask him. He apologised and told her he didn't mean it like that, he knew she isn't cheap either, he offered her to sleep in the hotel solely because she didn't have electricity at home and no visible generator when they left and it wouldn't be safe for him to drive her back, Enugu is not as safe as it used to be. besides, hes staying in the opposite room to hers and she should know he is a respecter of women.
She tried apologising but he understood, walked her to the room and before she closed the door told her, “Which man in his right senses wouldn't want to have you all to himself?”, even if it meant sleeping outside the door of her hotel room. kissed her checks and said good night
